Matt Davis is a Production Manager and Designer from San Diego, CA. Matt is the Production Manager for the Philadelphia Theatre Company, and is a M.F.A. graduate from the Yale School of Drama. He also holds a B.A. in Theatre Production/Design from Pepperdine University. Well versed in both management and design, Matt has worked as the Production Manager for New York Stage and Film, overseeing a large staff through two jam-packed seasons of new work by both emerging and established playwrights paired with Broadway-level directors and designers. While at Yale, Matt worked as Production Manager and Technical Director for various productions, in addition to working in lighting design and other production positions for both the Yale Repertory Theatre and the School of Drama.
Prior to moving to the east coast, Matt worked as the Technical Production Manager for the Lisa Smith Wengler Center for the Arts, responsible for all technical aspects of the 70-show season for Smothers Theatre, a traditional 500-seat roadhouse, as well as black box and recital hall spaces. An Adjunct Faculty member (special projects) at Pepperdine University, Matt designed and managed many fully produced plays and musicals, working across Stage Management, Lighting Design, Sound Design, and many other positions.
Matt has worked internationally since 2010, participating in and helping to manage Fringe Festivals around the world. After managing and designing multiple productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, he worked in technical direction for the San Diego Fringe Festival, and designed at the Hollywood Fringe, in addition to assisting with numerous international premieres and bi-national productions. Matt also managed the international tour of Why Do You Stand There In The Rain?, sponsored by the Traverse Theatre, Playwrights’ Studio, and Creative Scotland.
Matt also founded Technical Production Management, a San Diego-based production Design company, works regularly as a freelance graphic designer & web developer, and supervised Web Development and Digital Media for the Pepperdine School of Law.
